Naturalistic paths


In succession we have indicated some possible excursions in the area of “La finestra sulle Mainarde”, with the presence of Vincenzo Pontarelli, recognized guide of Molise. Please, book your excursions when booking your holiday, in order to give the guide time to organize comfortably your trip.
 

PIANORO DELLE FORME (1450 mt)



Vegetation: orchids, Euforbia gasparrinii ssp sannitica, Crocus vernus, Taxus baccata etc.; high-flying: Bromus prairie with abundant biodiversity (about 40 species per square metre!), alpin Ramnus, pendulina rose, Nigritella widderii, Primula auricula, Lilium martagon, Genziane, Genzianelle etc.

Fauna: marsican brown bear, deer, roe, wolf, Abruzzo’s chamois, golden eagle, little newt, appenninic squirrel and other micro-mammal.
Geological features: dolomitic chalky shapings ,pleistocene glacial circle,  erosions dated back to the last ice age, deposits of moraine and erratic stones.
Anthropical aspects: ancient fold for sheep breeding, last century remains of coal-cellars, legend about Benedictines and Passo dei Monaci. [if your group wants and easier route you can arrive to Valle Pagana, at the feet of Passo dei Monaci, notably reducing the route].
Duration: 7 hours.
Difficulty: medium.
Equipment: walking boots, flask, mantle (in case it rains), packed lunch.

FROM VOLTURNO SPRINGS TO THE LAKE OF CASTEL S. VINCENZO



Description: through a forest track and a path which goes through the oak wood at the feet of “Monte della Rocchetta” we arrive to the lake of Castel S. Vincenzo.
Flora: mixed oak wood, ash tree and different species of orchids.
Fauna: roe, appenninic squirrel, birds of prey, fox, stone marten, badger.
Panoramic places: Castel San Vincenzo and Rocchetta Vecchia’s villages and from the lake the “Mainarde”.
Duration: 3 hours.
Difficulty: low, path suitable for everyone.
Equipment: walking boots, flask, mantle (in case it rains).

MONTE MARRONE EXCURSION (1800 MT).



Description: Monte Marrone is one of the most pleasant and best preserved places of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. The excursion takes place in a wonderful beech wood, popolated by lots of animals like the deer, the roe, the brown bear, the boar and hundreds of birds. At the top of the mountain we can visit Charles Moulin’s shelter, a french painter who had lived on Monte Marrone for many years.
Duration: 7 hours.
Difficulty: medium.
Equipment: walking boots, flask, mantle (in case it rains), packed lunch.

SAN MICHELE A FOCE EXCURSION



Description: through an amazing path we arrive to the panoramic and rocky San Michele Church.
Flora: cliff vegetation, aromatic plants, iris, violets, etc.
Fauna: Abruzzo chamois, squirrel, newt, etc.
Duration: 3 hours.
Difficulty: low.
Equipment: walking boots, flask, mantle (in case it rains).
